This is a very late post but we went to China for nearly 3 weeks in April!!! Grandma Kathy, Pau Pau, and Yee Pau came with us! Or should I say, we went with Pau Pau and Yee Pau on their planned trip to China.
(We have so many pictures on everyone's photos so I will put up more posts later with photos. These are the photos I have from my phone only just so I can write our trip recap on the blog).
It was a very overwhelming and exciting trip but we are glad we did it! We left on Sunday April 2, we had an afternoon flight from Chicago O'Hare to Beijing. It was a 12 hour flight. Then we had a 2 hour layover (It was really only 1 hour as we were delayed) and literally ran through the airport to get our connecting flight to Shanghai.
We are thankful for the staff at Hainan airlines at O'Hare. The flight was not full so they gave us 3 extra seats! So we were all able to "stretch out" a bit and not be so cramped. Our flight to Beijing was a bit delayed. Maddie did not nap so was a bit cranky. Luckily Yee Pau was able to calm her down for about an hour so she was at least a bit rested. She was in great spirits during the flight. She loved having her own little TV in front of her! Yee Pau was able to get Maddie to sleep and she slept probably 7 hours (I don't remember writing this post about 1.5 months later!) but she was decently rested which was good!
We landed late and originally had about a 2 hour layover to get our bags, get to another terminal, check in everything and get to our flight. Unfortunately we landed late, and had to wait for shuttle buses to take us to the terminal! Also the team in Chicago did not give us boarding passes to our flight to Shanghai so that created another delay. After running through the airport we made it just in time to board our Shanghai flight. The "Last Boarding" sign was flashing! After all that, our flight sat on the run way for 2 hours!!!!
We ended up getting to our hotel at around 2am that morning, just to have to get up at 6:30am! Breakfast would be at 7 and we had to get onto our tour bus at 7:30am. First day of travel, done! We were ready to "relax" and see Shanghai....
