China Trip Day 6 & 7 - Guangzhou

We flew from Shanghai to Guangzhou this day! We had family book us a private van which was a lifesaver as we had a TON of luggage!  We made our way to the hotel and got settled in. We stayed at this hotel for a luxurious 2 nights!  The first day we just relaxed at the hotel and later headed out to dinner with extended family from Vickie's Pau Pau's side. There was a little boy there about 5 or 6 years old who gave Maddie a few little presents!

You'll notice Maddie no longer has her brace in these photos! We took it off when we went to Guangzhou. She had a bit of a limp as her foot and leg were turned out due to the weight of the brace, so she still got some stares from people going by.

It's worth noting that Guangzhou is further south than Shanghai and boy could we feel it, it was so hot! Another thing to note is that they speak Cantonese in Guangzhou so I finally felt like I could communicate and get around. They mainly spoke Mandarin in Shanghai (our tour was 99% in Mandarin) and it literally was a completely different language to me.

The next day we hired another private taxi to take us around all day long to wherever we wanted to go (as we had arrived too late to book a tour of Guangzhou).  Our first stop was Baiyun Mountain and we took a tram up to the top of the mountain which Maddie loved!  We walked around a lot and took lots of pictures.

We took the tram back down and got a tad lost finding the taxi, but ended up at Yuntai Garden at the base of the Mountain.  This was a lovely spot and I wish we had more time here as it was just really cute.

We headed back into our taxi and made our way to Mount Yuexiu. After a bathroom and ice cream break, the grandma's and Aunt Pooi took Maddie on a little tram ride while Joseph and I walked up the mountain to look around.  Joseph and I got a tad lost on the way back to meet everyone and ended up on what seemed like the opposite side of the mountain! We made our way back to street level and walked around the block to meet everyone at the car.

We then went to the Chen Clan Ancestra Hall as my grandmother is a Chen (also known as Chan).  It was a lovely large space and we had fun looking at the old building and grounds.

(I didn't take any photos of Mount Yuexiu or the Chen Hall on my phone)

The taxi dropped Maddie, me and Grandma back at the hotel as we were beat and needed to cool off!  Joseph, Pau Pau Nancy and Aunt Pooi headed out for more site seeing.  Joseph picked up pizza for dinner that evening and it was our first taste of pizza in a week and was absolutely delicious!!

We had lots of fun in Guangzhou and I look forward to visiting again!
