China Trip Day 10: Hong Kong to Macau to Taishan

Wow this day was a crazy travel day!! We traveled to 3 different countries today! Hong Kong, Macau and our final destination of Taishan which is where Vickie's family is from.  Our travel plans today didn't end up the way they thought they would, but we ended up in Taishan in once piece so that's all that matters.

We got up in the morning in Hong Kong and walked our way to the boat pier to catch a boat to Macau.  We had intended to stay in Macau a couple of hours to sight see.  We thought there would be boats every 15 minutes between Hong Kong and Macau... and there were, but what they didn't tell us is the cost would be 3x more expensive than the boat that takes off every 2-3 hours!  With 6 of us we didn't want to pay the additional fee so we were stuck at the HK pier for a couple of hours. We luckily got on stand by for a slightly earlier boat (had we known about the stand by option before, we probably would have gotten into Macau earlier!)

Anyways, after about a 45 minute boat ride, we ended up in Macau.  We then had to take a cab ride to another location where we had to go through Customs to end up in China. We thought our van driver would be able to pick us up in Macau but we had to go into China a bit.

After lots of waiting around and figuring out where to go, we finally met up with the van driver and made our way to Taishan!  It was about a 2 hour drive and we were exhausted!  We met up with some family, got settled into our room (which cost less than $15 US per night!), and made our way downstairs to the restaurant to eat before they closed up for the evening.

We then went back upstairs to sleep on the most uncomfortable beds ever (they were just box springs!) for some much needed rest.

Only took 1 picture today, of Joseph and Kathy on the boat from HK to Macau:
