Grandpa Don and Grandma Mary Ellen's Visit the last week of May!

Grandpa Don and Grandma Mary Ellen visited us the last week of May. I unfortunately lost my phone the day they left and do not have any photos of their visit!  Thank you Grandpa and Grandma for sending me photos to put on the blog!

On Wednesday they took her to music class and wore her out at the park. Thursday was more of the same.  I took Friday off and we went to the Garfield Park Conservatory in the morning.

It was great seeing them, Maddie had a ton of fun, and we look forward to your next visit!

Video: Reading to Herself

This morning as we were getting ready, Maddie picked up a little book we have of words from Eric Carle's The Very Hungry Caterpillar, and Maddie started babbling. I realize she was reading to herself and quickly grabbed my phone to take a video.

It's a long-ish video.  Around the 1:15 mark you can see her pointing to the letters / words and "reading" out loud.

And at the end she meows for no reason :)

Sunday Play Time

This Sunday was all about Maddie and all about play time!!

In the morning we walked about 1 mile to a new play space I got free admission to!  I have been meaning to go to this space but timing has never worked out (plus it's kind of a far walk / but too short to drive). It's a cute little space that had a decent amount of toys and was clean and nicely run. It was a private event and they had free drinks and snacks!

Maddie enjoyed herself and did not want to leave!  She had 2-3 temper tantrums (mainly because she wanted to walk around with snacks, and one of their rules is no snacks in the play area). I also learned she does not like to, or understand, how to share. She was riding on one of 2 bouncy blue elephants (photo below) and kept alternating sitting on one elephant or the other. Another girl about a year or so older than her sat on the other elephant and Maddie got so upset she started to cry. She was not angry but was sad the other girl was sitting on "her" elephant.  I tried to tell her we have to share but she did not understand, so I took her to another toy.

She grabbed an apple newton bar

She did not see this tool table until we were able to leave and she loved it! She especially loved playing with the little nuts and putting them into the holes.

When we got home we had lunch before her nap. She ate SO MUCH!

After her nap we took a long-ish walk (it felt longer than normal due to the heat) to Erhler park to play in the sand. There were lots of new sand toys there so we didn't need to use our own bucket.

Later she found some sticks in the sand pit, and walked them over to the side of the train and just sat down and played with her sticks. I had to bribe her with a cookie in order to leave!

Saturday Chicago Fire Game

This past Saturday we drove out to Toyota Park for a Chicago Fire Soccer game!  The weather was lovely (in fact it was TOO hot). We actually got there on time for the start of the game! Unfortunately we stood in the security line and missed a good chunk of the beginning of the game. We snagged some seats and ate lots of french fries and snacks.  At the beginning of the second half we went over to the other side of the stadium for some much needed shade and got some ice cream!

We stayed for the end of the game then headed to the parking lot so beat the traffic out of the parking lot. Maddie wanted to wander off on her own and was getting in everyone's way so Joseph picked her up to carry her the rest of the way. You see that did NOT go well!

In all a good day, and I forgot, the Fire won 1-0!

Maddie Eats Lemon

Here's a cute video of Maddie eating some lemon. She knows it is sour so will only try it a few times and then moves onto something else.

Being Silly

Maddie found an old St Patrick's day hat in one of our toy bins. Normally she does not like wearing anything on her head (hats, bows, headbands) but she really wanted to wear this hat!  She sat through most of dinner with the hat on her head.

Maddie loves fried fish! Who wouldn't love beer battered fried fish though, right?  She ate almost 2 whole pieces all on her own.

After dinner she was being silly on the kitchen floor. I decided to take some more selfies using the face swap app. She even smiled as we took some of them as she realized we both looked very silly!
