Bath Time Fun

During bath time, we will run just a small trickle of cold water for Maddie to play with after we're done cleaning her. We give her a small plastic cup to play with, and she knows that if she wants to drink any water, she can only drink the cold water. She loves the cold water! She'll drink some, shiver and smile and say "Oh so cold!!"

Sunday visit to PetsMart

Sunday was pretty dreary out and we had no plans and didn't really need to go to the store for anything. So I took Maddie to PetsMart!  She loved it! We spent about an hour there and walked the entire store twice. She loved the fish and made fish noises. She loved looking at the birds and lizards. We passed by the dogs in the back of the store going through obedience lessens. We even went inside the little room where they have kittens and cats available for adoption and she said Hi to all of them. On the way out we stopped and looked at the dogs & cats being groomed in the front.

Video: Playing with whiskey stones

I discovered a new toy for Maddie out of household items!  I found a little bag of about 9 whiskey stones. She had already discovered the paper towels we were too lazy to put away so I put them together! She loved putting the stones on top of the paper towel roll and knocking them inside. Then she'd pull the roll up, pick the stones up and do it all over again.

Playing with her animals in bed

We were getting ready for bed time and I was putting some clothes away. Maddie was chatting away with the animals and stuffed toys in her bed. When I turned around to see her, she had laid her toys out so nicely in front of her, I had to take a picture. So cute!

Maddie: Fracture in her left leg!

Maddie broke her leg!  She was acting odd when we picked her up from daycare yesterday night and thought she was constipated (based on what the teacher told us).  This morning she was acting very odd and we realized she was not putting any pressure on her left leg.

Long story short: We went to the doctors and they examined her and she winced and cried when hard pressure was applied to the bottom of her left leg (on the front of her leg, about 1-2 inches above her foot).  We went to the hospital and got an X-ray and it was confirmed she had a fracture. We went down to the ER and got a splint. We made an appointment with orthopedics for the following week.

The school does not know what could have happened or how she could have injured her leg. The orthopedic nurse told us it's very common. She could have twisted it or fell in an awkward way.  We think perhaps she twisted it while playing in the snow that day at school.

Maddie has been a champ wearing the splint! We put down padded mats and the pack & play mattress and she's crawling around and acting like nothing is wrong!

At the orthopedic visit, we told them about our 3 week trip overseas and they decided to give us a boot rather than a real cast, phew!  We are so glad we got the boot because we can take it off for bath time and will be able to take it off half way through our China trip.  Maddie has loved putting stickers on it!

Picture outside of the X-ray room, waiting for our X-ray. Putting no pressure on her left foot.

Picture of the hairline fracture. It's very very hard to see.

In the ER, waiting for the splint to be put on

The next day, playing on the mats with her splint on.

Went over to a friends for brunch, still able to play with friends with the splint on!

Still able to sleep with her legs spread eagle!

At the orthopedics office, waiting to get her splint taken off.

Maddie loves putting stickers on her boot!

Green Mustache

We went over to our friends for St Patrick's day brunch. They had little green mustaches for the kids and Maddie absolutely loved hers! She kept putting it on and off.

Video: Where's Maddie At?

We played a variation of "hide and seek" where Maddie is supposed to hide and we have to find her. Except Maddie doesn't hide very well and comes out instead of staying hidden.

Sunday at the Garfield Park Conservatory

We went to the Garfield Park Conservatory again as it was snowy out!  We had a lovely time and actual ran into our good friend Emily and her parents! We also ran into one of Maddie's classmates Isaac (who we have run into before there!). We had a fun morning and always enjoy coming here.
