May 2018 - Road Trip to Tulsa to see Family

We took a road trip down to Tulsa to see family! We left on Thursday 5/17 and wanted to make the trip in 1 day.  We brought Maddie to school in the morning so she could work some energy off and also so Joseph could pack the car. We picked her up from school and really hoped both kids would nap in the car on the way... Unfortunately Maddie did not nap but we quite content to do activities and watch shows on the iPad.  James did not take his second nap until about 5pm and then napped only about 45 minutes. He was also quite good though on the trip. We made the trip in about 12 hours which included all of our stops.

We enjoyed ourselves in Tulsa and got to visit with family. Most importantly we got to see Nana Mary Ellen one last time.

We headed back home on Sunday late morning and made it back to Chicago in 11 hours. This time we made more frequent stops but they were shorter in duration.

Lots of pictures from our trip below and a little video of James playing with Grandpa.

James finally napped!

Mother's Day 2018

We went over to see Pau Pau and Bak Bak on Mother's Day! We picked up lunch on the way over. We haven't seen Bak Bak in a very long time!  James was a little grumpy and did not really enjoy the visit so he looks a bit sad in these pictures.  We were able to get a picture of 4 generations of family!

We didn't realize Maddie had candy in her mouth during this picture.

Riding a Fire Truck at Otto's 3rd Birthday Party!

On Sunday we went to our friend Otto's 3rd birthday party! They had the best surprise for the kids - a real red fire truck!!  It was a hose truck that had been converted with seats at the top! The driver took us on a surprisingly long ride! We drove all the way to Comiskey Park (Yes I still call it Comiskey Park!) and back to our friends house. It was a very chilly and windy ride up there!

Video: Maddie talks about Purim

At dinner tonight, all of a sudden Maddie was talking about Haman and saying "BOO" and Queen Esther and saying "YAY!" I remembered she learned about Purim at school and she was telling us about it!  I took a quick video because she's so cute and serious about the story!  Before I was able to take the video, she said "I'm Jewish. You're (daddy) Jewish and you're (mommy) Jewish."

She says:
When you hear the name Haman you say "BOO" because he HURT the Jewish people.
Queen Esther's nice! When you hear Queen Esther you say "YAY!" because she saved the Jewish people. She took them to another house.

Happy Chinese New Year!

My cousin gave us this cute Chinese outfit for James before he was born, I didn't think he would fit into it until he was at least a year old as it was a child size (the smallest she could get) but I was wrong!  The top fit him just right in the tummy (the sleeves a little long), and the pants fit around his waist and the elastic was even a little tight! The legs were also long, but wow, he fit into it pretty well!

I decided the perfect time to wear it would be to celebrate Chinese New Year!! Maddie had pajama day at school so I wasn't able to dress her up today.

Maddie's First Live Show - Daniel Tiger Live!

On Sunday, we surprised Maddie by telling her we were going to see a live Daniel Tiger show!!  Pau Pau came over to watch James so it was just the 3 of us!  We told her in the car as we were driving, and she actually got very upset! She did NOT want to see Daniel Tiger!  Joseph and I thought UH OH!  But she perked up later on. We got McDonalds on the way and ate in the car.

There was a mix-up with the times and we ended up an entire hour early! So we got pop corn and cotton candy and sat in the lobby until they let us into the theater to find our seats.  This was Maddie's first time eating cotton candy and it's no surprise she LOVED it!

Here is a video of her during her cotton candy sugar high! It's not a very good video but you can still see and hear how crazy she got!

They said no photos, but I took the best picture I could while the security was walking around, as proof we actually saw the show!
