4th of July Weekend in Tulsa

We visited Tulsa over the 4th of July weekend. Wow was it hot! Maddie learned so many new things over the weekend, we were so impressed! We had a nice relaxing but also busy weekend. We were able to see almost all of the family.

We flew in Thursday and luckily the trip was uneventful! Maddie took a short nap at the airport and was asleep as we boarded the plane. We woke up before take off. She was pretty good throughout the flight. She was very tired towards the end of the flight and really needed a nap but was too riled up to sleep.

This is a very long post so trying a new feature as to not clog up the main page.

We stayed at Grandma Kathy's and Maddie got to meet all of her pets!  Maddie loved her cat Lil Bit. Lil Bit seemed jealous of Maddie and wanted the attention for herself!  Maddie did not seem to like Oliver the Dog though. She has been okay around other dogs but she's never been as up close and personal to as big of a dog as Oliver before.

Here are some pictures of Maddie hanging out at Grandma Kathy's:

Look at those teeth!

Kisses for Grandma Kathy!
As mentioned earlier, Maddie learned so many new things this trip!  The day we left (Thursday), my mom came over to drive us to the airport. As Joseph was picking up the bags, we watched Maddie on the floor, and she was lying on her belly, and she pushed herself to sitting up!  She was sitting frog legged, pushed herself up with her hands, and straightened one leg. She struggled and grunted a bit but then straightened the other leg and sat up!  It was the first time she had done it and luckily we were there to see it happen!  It happened again at Grandma Kathy's and we got it on video!

On Friday we went over to Uncle Mike & Aunt Corrie's in the early evening, we also saw Cousin's Kelsey, Jordan, and Trent!  Maddie also got to meet their cat Mr. Hankey and wow she did love Mr. Hankey!  He is one chill cat and did not seem to mind Maddie grabbing him all over, including his tail!  Kelsey brought out her favorite childhood book and the girls read it to her on the couch. Adorable!

Up close and personal with Mr. Hankey

Story time!

On the ride home, Maddie was being chatty:

On Saturday the 4th, we had breakfast with Grandpa Don & Grandma Mary Ellen at the Village Inn.  It was one of our first times at a restaurant with Maddie since she has started eating. It was actually a pretty good time!  We had plenty of hands to occupy Maddie so Joseph and I could eat.  We made sure to bring Maddie some food and also fed her some hash browns. She loved them and clapped every time we gave her some.

Um Mom, where are the hashbrowns?

More kisses!

In the afternoon, the entire family met over at Uncle Chris's for a barbecue.  Maddie showed off her new clapping skills!  We had a great time eating, talking, and catching up!

I was heading back to Chicago early Sunday evening, so we mostly hung around Grandma Kathy's that day.  We dropped Maddie off at Grandpa Don & Grandma Mary Ellen's on our way to the airport.  Joseph and Maddie stayed in Tulsa until Tuesday.  I really missed Maddie (and Joseph) those roughly 48 hours (but boy did I enjoy sleeping!  I did wake up a lot during the night like I normally would when Maddie is at home).

In the following picture, she pushed herself up and backwards into a sitting position and into a basket.

On Monday, Joseph and Maddie went to the park with Grandma Kathy and the dogs!  Later that day they went with Grandpa Don to visit Great Uncle Dan and 2nd Cousins Rob and Tammy.  It was the first time they met each other.

While with Grandma Kathy, Maddie played a nearby park....

And learned how to hold her hands in the air when we yell "Yeaaaaaa!!!" (Thanks Grandma Kathy!)

The flight back to Chicago was about an hour delayed.  Maddie again was overstimulated on the flight, but everyone around them said she was a very good baby during the flight, so that's good!

Maddie had consistently woke up around 2-3am during the trip, which was unusual as (at the time) she was getting up around 4-5am.  Her first night back, she woke up at 5am to eat and quickly went back to bed. Phew! Home Sweet Home!

On the car ride home!
