Maddie broke her leg! She was acting odd when we picked her up from daycare yesterday night and thought she was constipated (based on what the teacher told us). This morning she was acting very odd and we realized she was not putting any pressure on her left leg.
Long story short: We went to the doctors and they examined her and she winced and cried when hard pressure was applied to the bottom of her left leg (on the front of her leg, about 1-2 inches above her foot). We went to the hospital and got an X-ray and it was confirmed she had a fracture. We went down to the ER and got a splint. We made an appointment with orthopedics for the following week.
The school does not know what could have happened or how she could have injured her leg. The orthopedic nurse told us it's very common. She could have twisted it or fell in an awkward way. We think perhaps she twisted it while playing in the snow that day at school.
Maddie has been a champ wearing the splint! We put down padded mats and the pack & play mattress and she's crawling around and acting like nothing is wrong!
At the orthopedic visit, we told them about our 3 week trip overseas and they decided to give us a boot rather than a real cast, phew! We are so glad we got the boot because we can take it off for bath time and will be able to take it off half way through our China trip. Maddie has loved putting stickers on it!
